Wandering to the Western edges

Over Christmas Andrew and Simon reminisced about beach days and travels. Lubricated by just a little wine a spark was shared. We yearned to travel again, a road trip somewhere along the watery western edges of the UK.

Our dream started to grow.

Wouldn’t it be great to travel with friends we thought.

Wouldn’t it be great to share food, stories and music along the way. Wouldn’t it be great to reconnect with ourselves, each other and the landscape after all we’ve been through lately.

We started to imagine recreating the kind of experience the Do Lectures creates, in the shape of a road trip.

A mini ideas festival on wheels.

So, we’re looking to gather together a small group of like minded dreamers to share and shape the idea.

Our idea so far looks like this:

A road trip probably around NW Scotland

April/May or Sept/Oct

No tickets to buy or travel / accommodation provided — but we might organise vehicle shares

Lots of beaches, wild spaces and wild camping

We follow a planned route with pre-arranged stopping points

The route might include visits to interesting people and places

Along the route we hold a series of self-organised gatherings run by fellow road trippers

Gatherings could be: informal workshops, talks, food and foraging, sing alongs, star gazing….

We also thought a theme might be useful to give our journey a focus. As with all these early ideas nothing is fixed, yet we wondered whether a theme of reimagining and reshaping might be inspiring. In our post-Brexit, post-Trump, post-Covid world let’s take a journey together to reimagine new ways to live, work and collaborate.

We need help to shape this early idea, there is much to think about: how do we make it inclusive — families, those with no vehicle etc, how do we think about costs, would anyone be interested in joining in, is it just a logistical nightmare?

Want to talk more and see where we can take this together?

Love Andrew & Simon
